Giant Eagle - Product Packaging redesign
Giant Eagle is a well-known American Supermarket chain with stores across the eastern states.
(The following write-up explains each piece in a story way. The client is fictional.)
When shopping in the coffee aisle at Giant Eagle, there are various boxes containing their brand of K-cups. I was curious as to the process of creating the graphics for these boxes, so I bought a box and took it home.
The process to get the correct dimensions of the box was relatively simple. I used two steps: the first step was to carefully pull the box apart to where it could be laid flat on a scanner. Once scanned, I now had a workable image I could trace within Adobe Illustrator. The second step involved measuring all aspects of the box to pull together the correct dimensions. After doing this I was able to accurately replicate the box design and dimensions within Illustrator.
I then began the process of creating my score, dye, and cut marks, which are crucial to creating the box. To further enhance my learning, I came up with a redesign for the package and then created a series: Light Roast, Medium, and Dark.
This project helped me gain an understanding of packaging design and what goes into creating something that seems so simple.
